2018 Little Warrior: Grace Hohenstein
Meet Grace, a spunky three year old who is currently battling B-cell accute lymphoblastic leukemia. We were told that if a child has to have leukemia that this is the best kind to have as it is the easiest to treat and it has the highest cure rate and a although we hang on to that statement, Grace has had a hard treatment road so far. Most of the treatments have not gone well, if there was a complication to be had, Grace fell into that small percentage of having that complication.
Grace is such a fighter but this road has not been an easy road for her and her family. Her course of treatment has been filled with many unexpected twists and turns that has resulted in more than expected hospitalizations. Grace and one of her parents spent many days and nights at the Children’s hospital. Having a 10 month old during this process has added many extra added miles as Graces brother Jonah has not been allowed on the 7th floor due to flu season. All while trying to work a full time job, care for Grace and Grace’s brothers, Graces parents (Amy and John) have spent many nights apart and many miles and extra Gas making sure they are in all the places they need to be when they are needed to be there. This donation would ease a little of the financial stress that Amy and John are enduring during this stressful and busy time in their families lives. It would also be a reminder to their family that truly they are not fighting this alone and they have so many people in their lives that care about them and are praying for them every day.
Grace loves beads, marbles and unwrapping things that are individually wrapped like starburst candies or hersey kisses. She likes to ride the tricycle up and down the halls of the hospital when she is strong enough to do so. She loves Frozen and Moana. Grace also enjoys Watching Daddy play baseball, anything outdoors, spending time with family and friends, and playing kitchen- she’s quite the chef!
Through all of this though, Grace and her family have fought and each time come out stronger than they were before. Grace is truly our “forever fighter” and she is truly the perfect example of an INDY warrior. She is certainly not done yet and is a constant reminder to all of us what it means to forever be a fighter!
